Spread the Word"I adopted a potcake from South Caicos Island in August 2005. They really are incredible dogs: Annie is so well behaved, and smart! I just can't say enough good things about her-- people approach me on the street to ask what breed of dog she is, and friends ask where they can find a dog like her. I'll direct them to your website! Just wanted to say congratulations on the good work that your organization is doing."
Brothers Reunited"Sean and Provo, two brothers (and absolutely identical twins!) were recently reunited in Boston. They recognized each other immediately, and played together in much the same way as they had as pups! It was an absolutely glorious reunion! When Provo went home, Sean curled up into a ball and cried and cried. He was reassured that he'd be seeing Provo again soon, as we plan to celebrate their first birthdays together in March! It was SO beautiful seeing the brothers together again!"
Boston, Mass.
Puppy Classes"Ty just attended his first puppy kindergarten class. He is about 3 ½ months now. He did GREAT! He has a beautiful puppy sit and did great paying attention to me once the class got started. After only about 15-20 minutes of “class” they got to get off their leads and have some good old fashioned puppy play time. I was so proud of him. I got a little emotional watching him play with all his new friends and be a part of a pack again. It was beautiful! He is a sweetheart and I feel so thankful for him."
Connecticut
Well Behaved Girls"Adorable Blaze and Ashley made the trip to Chicago without a hitch! They slept most of the way and people on the plane didn't even know that they were there until I told them. Both girls are eating very well and love treats and their new chew toys. They enjoy play time in their new backyard and visits with friends. Everyone comments on how sweet and well behaved they are. We really appreciate your amazing work and will keep you posted on their progress!"
Chicago, Illinois
Our Hospice Potcake"Violet enjoyed her first Christmas with us. She helped open some presents. I have taken her to the hospice I work at with me. She comes every day. Our residents just love her and a nurse takes her on rounds with her. Violet's calm ways has brought so much joy to our terminal residents. She senses their limits and adjusts herself accordingly. She loves the gardens and has marked a few special plants as hers. We have a huge staff and I am known to many people as Violet's mom. Everyone has heard of her. She is our hospice dog. My boss has been very supportive of Violet and enjoys having her around. I am very blessed. Having Violet in my life has added so much and I just could not imagine not having her. Thank you again for giving us Violet, she is truly a gift. She naturally attracts people to her. Take care!"
Burlington, Ontario
We have Snow!"We have snow! Ginger is like a kid in a candy store...running thru it, so playful. She is in and out...I need a revolving door! It is hilarious to watch...her coat has really thickened up so I don't think the temperatures will be an issue. So wonderful to watch them when they discover something new...."
Toronto, Ontario
Colder Climes"Ace & Chloe are brother & sister who we adopted in April 2005. They are loving, loyal and wonderful as you would imagine. We have relocated to Vermont (April 2006) and I would like to report that they are adjusting to the colder climate like pros. Two plane rides and long road trips were handled with ease, by these two inseperable siblings. They go to doggie day care if we are working and have continued to acclimate to their New England surroundings making many friends along the way. If there is anything I could offer to help place potcakes in my surrounding area I would be happy to do so. THANK YOU for the work you do!"
Two Potcakes"Kipper's first vet visit here in the States went great. He weighs 18.5 lbs. They all loved him and thought he was doing well. Heidi and Kipper have a few moments of challenge but for the most part are really coming along. I feel very lucky to have both!" Helen, North Carolina.
Patch on Provo"'Blue' is doing very well. He spent the entire day/evening at my side. He seems happy. He is so loving and is always trying to cuddle. He is so sweet natured and I am so thankful that he has joined my family. Roxy doesn't LOOOOOVE him YET...but I can tell she really likes him. Thank you for saving him...I promise he will be happy from here on out!"
Providenciales.
Bay goes Home"Bay has been a hit by everyone who sees her, and I tell them all about the potcakes and your group. She is eating fine and is alert, playful and very adorable. She went to work with me today and everyone loved her. She enjoyed everyone she met and slept most of the day as she is while I'm writing this. We also went to the vet and of course they all love her, then to the pet store where she acquired more fans. Bay was so happy to see Katie and wants to play but Katie keeps her distance for now. Hope to send photos soon. Thank you all so much for my Bay." Tricia, St Simons Island, GA.
New York City"Zena and Foxy are doing FANTASTIC! They had their first walk today in New York City and went to the dog run and met tons of other dogs. They did great. My Pitt-bull, CoCo is a grand dame so they follow her. She's the leader and puts them in their place when necessary. Charlie my mutt Chihuahua likes them OK. But the one who LOVES them is Cleopatra, one of our five cats. She licks them and smells them. Zena and Foxy are beside themselves. They fit right in. Even expect a bit of pampering now, thank you very much."
New York City,
In the Snow"We fell in love with the Potcakes on our first trip to Provo four years ago, but since we live in the mountains of NC (ski resort area) we thought it would be too cold for island dogs. A chance encounter with Heidi (see her own success story) and we found out that many Potcakes go to Canada. What a great chance encounter that turned out to be! Thanks to two very sweet ladies from Pittsburgh who volunteered to be couriers, we now have our puppies. They are learning quickly and are incredibly sweet...I think somehow they know they were saved from a very hard life and they seem so appreciative. They love to wrestle and play and even though Flash has the size advantage, Dellis seems to always come out on top! I’m so glad we adopted them together!" North Carolina.
LA Bound Hound"Thank you for everthing! Swiper, now "Caico", is at his new home doing well. We took him to the vet today and what a small world! His new doctor is responsible for setting up the vet clinic in the Turks and Caicos islands. He loves Caico too! I don't think I've ever loved one creature so much in my life...wish we were still there but we have the best daily reminder! Talk to you soon!" Julie and Marc, Los Angeles.
Flying Colours!"Thank you so much for your help with our adoption of Molly. She made the trip back to Dallas with flying colors! She is now having fun exploring our house, yard and her big yellow lab friend, Charlotte." Dallas, Texas.

By simply carrying a soft sided bag on to a plane, you can save a life and make a difference. We always need to find volunteers to carry pups to their new owners. We take care of everything and meet you at Provo airport, and the new owner will meet you at the destination airport. If you ever plan fly from Provo to The States or Canada, please contact us with the date and destination.

Can you provide a loving home for one of the potcakes we foster? Please take time to read their stories, and contact us for more information. All puppy names are given for reference only, and you will be welcome to rename your pup as they will only just be at the age for learning their name. Of course, you are welcome to keep the 'screen' name if you prefer. All puppies are given their vaccinations and wormers appropriate to their age whilst in foster care. We arrange for the necessary documents to be prepared by the vet here for the puppy to travel to the US or Canada. There is no quarantine necessary between Turks and Caicos and these countries. Potcake Place will accompany the puppy to Providenciales airport, check the puppy in to the flight, and arrange for a volunteer to carry the puppy in a special puppy holdall to be stowed under the seat in front. The new family will meet the pup at their nearest airport, and provide them with a loving home that they deserve. |

Potcake Place does not operate at a profit. The donations we receive in no way cover expenses for the care of the Potcakes. The cost of housing, food, and veterinary care are supported by the generous contributions of concerned animal lovers. We need your donation.
50 USD can feed one puppy for a couple of weeks, and 100-200 USD can fly a pup to a new home in the US. More can help with supplies, vaccines and medical bills. Each pup needs an average of 150 USD medical care with routine vaccinations and wormers every 2 to 4 weeks, and the health certificate for travel. The pups in care for longer may need antibiotics, and the older ones are spayed/neutered. Their costs can reach 500 USD alone. If you would like to make a donation, please use PayPal: Your donation will help towards the veterinary care for Potcake pups (including vaccinations, wormers, antibiotics, shampoos, health certificates, costs involved with spay/neuter for the older pups and dogs) or send to: Potcakeplace 21-0187 P.O Box 526370 Doral Fl. 33152-6370 USA We are an all-volunteer organization and so there are no set hours for us to be available to the public. We fit this in with our jobs and families. We look after the pups in our own homes, and provide them with the attention needed after not having the human contact previously. We socialise them with beach trips, and organise dog training and boarding where necessary. We meet potential adoptive families for a play session with the pups. We take the pups for their series of vaccinations, wormers and other treatments, and to arrange the health certificate for travel. If an adoption goes ahead, we then book the pup on to the plane, and meet the families at the airport. We also spend time finding volunteers to transport the pup if the family are not visiting the island. Remember that it is not only funds which can help the foster and adoption process, but time and resources. Dog food, collars, shampoo, treats, toys and flight bags to transport puppies etc. are always in need. Please send any parcels to: Sun International 2230 SW/2nd Street Pompano Beach, FL 33069 Attention: Jaime Largent for Potcake Place, Turks and Caicos islands If you think you can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us on +1 649 231 1010 or 244 2748 or please contact us. |

Millie aka Lee Home"Hi all you potcakers....update on the life of Millie...after her first encounter with snow "huh? whats this white cold cold stuff", she now LOVES IT, prancing through it - diving in assuming she will find a treasure (she is a burrower) - looking incredulous when she comes up empty-pawed..Too funny. We all take great delight in her one ear tricks. If you look at her sternly, she will tilt her head and take her left ear and stick it straight out sideways and its hard to be stern! We love love her - she loves us. Thank you so much again."
Toronto, Ontario
Great Temperaments"The pups arrived safe and sound and they are as sweet as all the rest. I don't know how you do it but every one of them are so nice with just the greatest temperaments. We brought them to our adoption day today and Babe was such a hit. We already have 4 applications for her."
Animal Alliance New Jersey
Potcake Fame"Marley is great! She had melted in to our family just beautifully and is sweet as can be and is so wonderful with the kids. She is quite famous around here because of the recent press on Potcakes."
Stuart Florida
Couriers Appreciated"Thank you so much to Stephanie and your lovely daughter for bringing the puppies to Toronto; you did such a wonderful job! I know how hard it would be to say good bye. Hope you arrive back to Ottawa safely this morning, and I'll send all of you pictures from home as soon as I can..."
Toronto, Ontario
No words can say..."Sean is absolutely the most wonderful, gentle, sweet boy in the whole world. I am so grateful for him; he has improved our lives in a thousand little ways."
Boston, Mass.
Handsome Hopkins"Little Potcake Hopkins is doing really well. Everybody wants to know what kind of dog he is because he is just so handsome He loves all dogs and all people and says hi to everyone with big wags of his tail. He is potty trained already, he knows how to 'sit' and he loves getting his picture taken. Don't let the serious little face in the pictures fool you. He's a little bundle of energy and a total loveable goofball. Love to all his little potcake cousins."
New York
Cat and Cake Mix"Grace just loves to run outside and plays a lot. She loves our cat Vincent and they chase each other around the house and share their toys with each other. She is so much fun and we are so glad to have her as part of our family."
Dallas, Texas
"I forgot to mention in my last Heywood update how well he gets along with our cats. In fact, I believe a couple of them actually like him instead of just tolerate him. He is a mild mannered little guy who just loves to play."
St Simon's Island, Georgia
Frequent Flyers"Our Road Warriors made it safely home to Quebec. What a trip- they were so quiet, no sounds, no crying, just flying home like frequent flyers. Georges and Ginger made a major hit with USA immigration and Homeland Security. Upon arrival in Montreal, Canadian Officer thought they were so nice that he even got out of his security desk to cuddle them and play with them while thousands of visitors were waiting in line to be granted permission to enter Canada!!"
Quebec City, Quebec
Shake a Paw Utley"Utley is doing fantastic! He had his second vet appointment last week. He weighs 20 pounds now. He is a delight to have in our household. He is crate trained and housebroken, he knows to come when he is called, he knows sit, stay and how to give his paw on command. He is a smart cookie! He and Barrett are two peas in a pod and enjoy each other's company very much. We are spreading the word to all of our family and friends about the potcakes."
Boston, Mass
Takes to the skies"Jimmy is fantastic. He is loving and cuddly. He is totally house broken, knows when it is time for supper and knows several new things. He goes for a ride in the car almost every day. We are going to take him in our small airplane as soon as we get a doggy headset for him. He is spoiled, he is loved and he is my baby!"
Florida
Blue Eyes"Dupree still has his beautiful blue eyes! He has completely adjusted to his new life in Arizona. He has learned how to shake his paw. Dupree continues to be a ball of endless energy. Princess is a 13 year old Lab and Dupree has brought out the puppy in her.
My grandmother passed away this month and somehow Dupree would recognize exactly when he needed to show some extra love to his family. Just yesterday he was on my lap and I just held him and he didn’t move until I was ready to let him go…he didn’t bite, wiggle or anything…and when I stopped hugging him, no joke he started licking the tears off my face. Puppy breath and all. I was touched. We love him very much and are very thankful for such a puppy."
Chandler, Arizona
Dewey at Home"Dewey is everything I was hoping for as a new member of our family! Many thanks to everyone in your organization for your outstanding commitment to potcakes. Everything went without a hitch because you had every detail for a successful adoption taken care of from the "wee-wee" pads in the bag to the health certificate. Also, a great big hug for the foster mom who socialized Dewey. She is very well behaved, loving and indeed mischievous. The family, including big brother Dooley and the cats, have fallen in love with her already. She fits in like she's been a member of the family forever." Lansing, New York
Pepper to Atlanta"Pepper (who we have named Caicos) did WONDERFULLY on the plane ride - and the car ride home from the airport! We have been taking Caicos around the neighborhood for walks in the morning and evening. She walks so well and we have both started jogging a bit - I think she is better at that than I am! I know she enjoys our yard and chasing the little frogs that live near our house. She is getting very well at obeying commands like sit and stay and lie down. She is definitely very smart. OK, I will quit gushing now. Thank you and the entire foundation so much for this opportunity to adopt such a wonderful little girl. We are forever indebted." Atlanta.
Grand New York"We made it home just fine yesterday, only about 3 barks in the plane if you can believe that. So Grand, we are now calling Provo-- but pronouncing it to sound like Bravo. He is keeping us on our toes. Barnum is quite abit jealous, he has let a few low growls at Provo but we had a break through Barnum wanted to play with him for about a second tonight in the park. He is already spoiled rotten and gets the run of the place. He is walked every 2-3 hours! I will keep passing the good word on. I promise I will keep you updated on "Provo" and give him lots of kisses for you. Thank you again, we feel truly blessed with him." New York
New Hampshire Potcake"My family adopted Willy (was Wendal) a few weeks ago. We just adore this pup! He is the sweetest boy. Loves to cuddle. Each morning when I first take him out to do his business I pick him up to bring him back in for his breakfast and he just nuzzles right into my neck. He's just the cutest - Thanks so much to Potcake Place for bringing us our new love!"
Kelly, New Hampshire
Honeymoon Hound"We made it safely back the US with Caico. He did wonderfully on the plane, sleeping the whole trip. He is getting adjusted to his new home well, exploring everything. He has been eating great and has not had any accidents yet:) Our dog Digby is a little unsure of him, but slowly getting to know him too. We'll send pictures as we get settled back in. Thanks again!" Kansas City Feb.2010
New Home"Finley started off a bit groggy from all of the travel, but after a few mintes with solid earth under his feet he started showing his true adorable self. He has already downed his first meal and a fair bit of water, with the kids commenting on each mouthful. Currently he is wandering the house and yard taking in a whole new world. He is everything we expected and more!" Boston, USA.
Potcake Family"As owners of three potcakes, we enjoy every moment of every day with them, and would not trade them for the world. They are the most loving, intelligent and protective, without being aggressive, dogs we have ever owned. It is our intention to forward your web site to all our contacts, as we feel the faster and wider the news spreads, the more succesful you will be in finding homes for these wonderful dogs." Toronto, Canada.
