Potcakes as a 'Breed' are exceptional dogs. They are smart, loyal, loving and incredibly beautiful pets.

There comes along a potcake from time to time, that just has that extra something and wins you over 100%. Ruby is such a dog.

A family living on the Island noticed a beautiful but very, very skinny Potcake in their yard one day. They were so concerned about her they followed her one day into the bushes to give her some food and to their amazement found her nursing Nine little babies. Instead of running away or showing signs of fear aggression, she waged her tail and smiled at the family.

They fell in love and vowed to look after her. A few days went by and the pups were beginning to roam around a little and the family were worried they would get into harms way and so they moved them up onto their balcony and doted on them. The Mom settled into the family as if she had always been there, she loved the children of the household and didn't mind any of the boys 'rough housing' she shared her babies and just fit right in.

Potcake Place were ready to collect the puppies as soon as they were ready to come into foster care and the family wanted to keep the Mom that they had decided to name Ruby.

A couple of weeks later they were told by their Landlord in no uncertain terms that the Mom and all of her babies had to go Immediately....Begging for more time, the family was told No. Either they are removed, or they would be removed.

In order to save their lives, Potcake Place took them all in.

The Mom is incredible. She is feeding her babies, playing with them and is just devoted and loving.

She hasn't missed a beat in being moved to a new location and wags her whole body when she sees members of her foster family, especially the young daughter aged 3.

When she has finished her duties as a Mommy, we will be spaying her and desperately searching for the Best forever home where she can get her turn at being doted on.

15th Oct. 2007: Ruby and her pups are continuing to do well. Her pups are getting bigger by the day and are now starting on puppy food.

UPDATE: Mudslide, Mandy, Minnie, Tux, Buster, Simba, Malibu and Gambo have all left the Island. Please see their own success stories.

Largest Boy. Sweet and very attentive. Loves to spend time curled up with his foster Mom.

We have seen this family right from the start and are very attached to all of them all. They are a very special litter. Their Mom Ruby has cared for them so well and we need to find them the very, very best homes.

A big thank you to this lovely family who took the time and effort to bring down some much needed supplies for the puppies. Mudslide and Mandy had great fun with you on the beach, and thank you for all the goodies!

UPDATE 3rd Nov. 2007: Ruby is doing so much better these days. We are so happy. She is actually playing in her foster home like a young puppy again. She has put on weight and her coat is shiny.
